The Damage Caused by Plastics to People

We would like to start this article by talking about microplastics, which are much more dangerous than visible plastics and cause great harm to living life. So what is this microplastic? We have said in our previous articles that the plastic wastes that are unconsciously thrown into nature cannot be dissolved in nature for centuries. As a result of factors such as water, heat, and wind, insoluble plastics gradually crumble and turn into much smaller pieces than themselves. These plastic parts, which are very small and directly affect the life of living things, are called 'microplastics'. These microplastics can mix with the air, water, and food we eat and enter our body much more easily than normal plastics, and adversely affect our health, especially our circulatory system.

Microplastics in the Womb!
According to a recent study, it has been observed that microplastics are found only in the placenta formed during pregnancy and even in the bodies of babies in the womb. This proves how microplastics get into everything we eat and drink. At the same time, considering the harm of plastics to the living body, we should not ignore how big health problems can be caused by the accumulation of these substances in our bodies.

Microplastics cause serious health problems, up to death, in animals as well as in humans. Animals that mistook colorful plastic pieces for food and consume them suffer serious digestive problems and lose their lives. Moreover, especially sea creatures that feed on these plastics are also on our tables. According to the studies carried out so far, it has been observed that more than 2000 sea creatures are directly affected by microplastic particles, and these particles are the leading cause of death of sea turtles.

One in Every Two Fish Contains Microplastics
According to another study conducted by Greenpeace Akdeniz in the seas of our country, microplastics have been found in most fish and mussel species in our seas. According to this study, which shows 44% of fish and 91% of mussels, we can say that almost one out of every two fish and 9 out of 10 mussels contain microplastics. Do you realize that people who feed on these creatures also face the same danger?

At the same time, the plastics we use in all areas of our daily life have a very carcinogenic effect on living life. Especially when they come into contact with heat, substances harmful to health are released. We can find this mostly in our kitchens. The plastic containers we use to store hot foods not only reduce the benefit we get from that food to zero, but also seriously harm our health.

While the health problems in our age increase day by day with the use of plastic, the rate of catching cancer, which is one of these diseases, is increasing with each passing second. Unfortunately, we will not be able to get rid of these diseases unless people have clean air and a clean world. Let's not forget that the health of people depends on the health of nature.

Alternative Solutions Against Plastic
So, is it possible to remove the plastic that harms ecological life so much from our lives and to reduce the pollution caused by plastic? What should we individually do? Let's discuss alternative solutions together.

Besides the plastic items we use all the time, the biggest danger is single-use plastics. These include straws, bags, and plastic bottles. Unfortunately, these plastic products, the use of which are banned in most countries, are still frequently used in our country and create tons of waste every day. So what can we do? Thanks to the cloth bags we take with us when we go shopping, we can prevent further waste generation. By putting the water that our children will take with them to school in eco-friendly materials, we can protect both our nature and their health from great harm. At the same time, instead of disposable plastic straws, we can prefer straws made from biodegradable materials.

Do not forget that the ones become unity by multiplying. Maybe a movement that you think is not so important will spread like a butterfly effect and mix with millions and make the world beautiful before you know what's going on.

Let's all take action for this World we live in and save nature from these plastic piles.
